Fire Debris Section

The Alaska State Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory - Fire Debris Section receives crime scene evidence to analyze for chemical accelerants in suspected Arson fires.

A Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer instrument analyzes the prepared fire debris evidence, which provides data for the Forensic Scientists to evaluate and provide law enforcement with reports of their conclusions.

Packaging evidence in specialized containers is vital to assure that volatile chemicals in the evidence are preserved.

If there are any questions regarding fire debris sampling, shipping or packaging, please contact the Fire Debris Section at (907) 269-5740.
