History

Alaska was the last state to build its own crime laboratory. In 1984 funds were appropriated by the 11th Alaska Legislature for the construction of a statewide forensic laboratory. In June 1986 the current 18,000 square foot facility was dedicated. The Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory provides forensic support to all law enforcement agencies in Alaska; with examinations and expertise in:

  • Breath Alcohol,
  • Blood Alcohol,
  • Controlled Substances,
  • Firearm/Toolmark,
  • Biological Screening,
  • DNA,
  • Latent Fingerprints, and
  • Crime Scene Investigation.
